Minority Gamers

To all you girls with boyfriends, or husbands, or brothers, one thing you hear, on a regular basis, seems to be yelling. Yelling at the t.v, or computer. You walk into the room, or just the doorway, admit it, your a little scared why there's yelling, to see said male on a video game. Sure, most of you boys don't think we notice as much, and don't care, so we're dismissed. But, girls, how many of you think it wouldn't be too bad to play vieo games...we're just not interested in the games that are out, or not likely going to be taken seriously. So we pass the opportunity by, oh well, there's shopping we can do.

In today's tech savvy world, it's getting better but only just starting to. Games have been around for a while, with nintendo consoles way back at the beginning of it all, or early style game boys. All of which had a target basis of well, boys. Why? Mario didn't aim towards the girls playing much or meaning much as Mario and Luigi were always off saving Princess Peach. Or racing, which a common misconception leads the majority of males to believe women are scared of driving, or not good at it. (Notice there are girl drivers in the Fast and Furious movies though?) So, why don't we play? Easy, there aren't "girly" games.

That's got to change! I don't see how it can be hard to make multiple styles of shooter games that all have generally the same story, if there even really is one, or racing games or the huge ones lately, zombies. And let me tell you, there are girls who like those just as much as some boys. So, the closest we get to games for girls, is WET, with a shooting fiend, or Bayonetta, a gun wielding witch, (yes most of us girls get the little pun that we're "witchy".)

So, not only do we not get much in the way of our own, we have to resort to the boys' games, which I admit I personally love playing Call of Duty, and attempting the multiplayer Assissins Creed. We're playing all the same stuff, if we're interested. Is it really so hard to believe boys, that we do? Apparently. I don't know how many times my husband and I, or even by myself, we hear other boys complaining about that one dude who's not doing as well, and to step up and learn to play, when the whole time it's me they're talk about. On my behalf I think I do good for a girl. Which shouldn't be an excuse. I can do just as well as some boys, just as some of them do as poorly as girls can. Boys, you should learn to accept that we have other things we do, we don't practice as hard, or as often, we generally don't take it as seriously, and neither should you expect us to.

Games are for fun. Girls can have just as much fun with them as boys, the same styles as well, but what we really need are more girls getting into the game design world and getting games out there for us. No, I do not mean shopping video games, or anything like that, though if it happens, props to all those included in making it happen. I'm asking, just games that us gamer girls can look at our boys and wonder "what the heck do they think they're doing?" when we see them play our games.
